The two
typical varieties of apple in Gallura, “Melappia"
e "Mela Noi Unci" are still grown in the old
orchards of the hilly and mountainous areas of
inland Gallura The Melappia “de oxiu” o
“de ozzu” apple is a very ancient cultivar. The
fruit ripens from mid October to late December and
is a medium size with an asymmetrical, flattened
shape.
The skin
is smooth and waxy, light green and typically
speckled with oily areas. The pulp is white, firm
and juicy, quite acidic, aromatic and tasty. |
