Myrtle berry
liqueur
|
This is
produced from a cold infusion of myrtle berries (Myrtus
communis L.) in water and alcohol. It is
presumed that this liqueur dates from the last
century, when families produced it in small
quantities, with the infusion of the berries in
water and alcohol and the addition of honey or sugar
to sweeten it.
There are
two types: one red and the other white. Red mirto is
obtained from purple red berries, while white mirto
is made from yellowish white berries (a white
variety of the same shrub), or from the leaves of
the myrtle bush. |
