The
artichoke is a Mediterranean plant which has been
grown in Italy since Medieval times. In North
Sardinia, in particular in the area of Uri, Ittiri
and Valledoria, the Spiny Sardinian variety is
grown.
It grows
from September to December. The Spiny Sardinian
artichoke has a distinct long tapered shape with
strong spikes on the end of its leaves. It is
particularly esteemed for its tenderness, tasty
flavour of its leaves and richness in vitamins. |
