Zerri
This
small fish too, together with eels, mullet and
sardines, represents and recalls festivals and fairs
in the Sassari area. In contrast to the preparation
of the other fish which are mostly grilled, they are
fried and marinaded in a sweet and sour sauce with
olive oil, garlic, tomato sauce, sugar and vinegar.
Zerri (picarels),
evoke sweet memories of past times when there were
few fishmongers and fish was mostly sold by street
traders.
