The Sassarese - Nurra territory is noted both for
traditional dishes from seaside towns and villages, its
extra-virgin olive oil made from olives of the ‘bosana’
variety and for the variety of vines and typical wines
(particularly ‘Cagnulari DOC’, ‘Vermentino di Sardegna
DOC ‘and ‘Moscato DOC’). The production of cheeses such as
‘Pecorino Romano DOP’ and ‘Pecorino Sardo’ is particularly
esteemed, along with those included in the Sardinian
Regional Council and the Ministry for Agricultural
Policy’s lists of traditional products, for example
‘Pecorino di Osilo’. Also of a very high quality is the
production of fresh pasta, typical cakes and biscuits,
traditional distilled spirits and characteristic island
liqueurs like ‘Mirto di Sardegna’ which is prepared from
the infusion of myrtle berries which grow wild all over
the region and is much loved throughout Italy. Agriculture
and animal farming offers genuine products that can be
tasted at the local rural tourist facilities (agriturismi).
